Pool splashes out on green energy
A new £10m swimming pool and leisure centre planned for Durham City is to benefit from green energy.

Consulting engineers on the facility, which is to be built on the riverside, are considering a number of measures to reduce C02 emissions.

These include a pool cover, condensing boiler, and triple glazing instead of the originally-planned double.

There is also the possibility that solar PV panels will be placed on the south facing roof of the fitness suite.

The 25 metre pool, eight-lane pool will replace the 70-year-old swimming baths in the Old Elvet district, and end a 20-year wait for a new facility.
