A councillor whose laptop computer was found to contain pornographic images has been suspended for a month.
Aileen Handy will have to receive computer training
Aileen Handy, a Sunderland City councillor, was disciplined following the discovery by technicians.
She told the council's standard committee she had not known about the pictures, but admitted not securing the council-owned laptop or her password.
She will also have to receive training in technology and council protocol before returning to work.
The committee further recommended that all city councillors be given training in computer technology.
Councillor Handy said: "I think their decision for a month's suspension until I undertake some training is absolutely fair.
"As I understand it, it should not too much affect working as a councillor because you are elected by the people.
"However, I would not be able to attend committee meetings."
Referring to the images, she said it was a matter for the family, and had been dealt with in the family.
