Christopher Mendez
Mr Mendez went missing from home on Tuesday
Police in County Durham are searching for a father-of-two, who left his home on Tuesday and has not been seen since.

Christopher Mendez, 35, of Bridgehill, near Consett, did not leave a note when he disappeared from the family home in the early hours.

His wife Janice and two young daughters have heard nothing from his since.

Durham Police say a search of local woodland by helicopter and volunteers, has so far failed to find any trace of Mr Mendez.

A spokesman for the force said: "Mr and Mrs Mendez had both been in the house during Monday evening, but she fell asleep on the sofa, and when she woke up her husband had gone.

"The only things which appear to be missing from the house are his recorder and a sleeping bag.

"He often goes out walking, but has not gone missing in this way before."

Unemployed Mr Mendez is usually known by his first name although he is also sometimes called "Paddy".

The spokesman added: "He has been unemployed for a while, but sometimes goes busking either in Chester-le-Street or Newcastle.

"Hospitals have been asked to check their admissions lists for anyone matching his description, the police helicopter has flown over the area and checks have also been made with local taxis and at bus stations.

"Search and rescue volunteers have also combed nearby woods but no trace of Mr Mendez has yet been found."
