Driver rescued after river plunge
A 20-year-old man had to be rescued by firefighters after his car plunged 12ft into a County Durham stream and landed upside down.

Durham Police say the driver, from Barley Mow, lost control of his Suzuki four-by-four and went through a barrier landing in the water.

The accident happened on the B6313 on Pelton Fell Road near Glen Terrace, Chester-le-Street, on Tuesday evening.

The man suffered head and back injuries which were not life threatening.

The road was closed for two hours as the Durham Fire and Rescue Service carried out the rescue.
