Police's three-year hunt for man
Edward Donnelly

Police are searching in County Durham to help solve the mystery behind a man who has been missing for three years.

Edward Donnelly, 57, disappeared without explanation from the home he shared with his sister in Fynway, Sacriston, on 25 March 2002.

A team of specialists, including search dogs and experts from other police forces will scrutinise sites and talk to motorists.

When he was last seen, Mr Donnelly was wearing a green waxed jacket.

Det Ch Insp Jeff Watson said: "Mr Donnelly has disappeared without trace and has made no contact with his family since.

"While Mr Donnelly is regarded as a bit of a loner, it is totally out of character for him to stay away from home.

"After this length of time hopes of finding him alive are waning. However, we are doing our utmost to discover what has become of him and bring the investigation to a conclusion."

Durham Police are appealing for anyone with information about Mr Donnelly's disappearance to come forward.
