Two die in separate road crashes
A man and a teenager have been killed in two separate accidents on the region's roads.

A 13-year-old girl was knocked over and killed by a car on the A1231 Washington Highway on Saturday night.

And a 22-year-old man died when his car hit a stone bridge and split in two on the A1052 at Bournmoor, in County Durham, at 0030 GMT on Sunday.

The dead man was named as Shaun Brown from Fence Houses, who was in the RAF, based at Peterborough.

A 22-year-old woman from Shiney Row, who was also in the car, was treated in hospital and released.
