The Great North Museum houses a life-size T-Rex dinosaur skeleton
|
A Tyneside museum is the only venue in the North of England to be selected for a prestigious award. Judges have been visiting the Great North Museum: Hancock, in Newcastle, to assess whether it deserves to win the Art Fund Prize award of £100,000. It is competing against 11 other venues including Hampton Court Palace, Surrey, and The Natural History Museum, London. The Art Fund is aimed at increasing public appreciation and enjoyment of the UK's museums and galleries. Highlights of the £26m museum in Newcastle include a large-scale interactive model of Hadrian's Wall, mummies from Ancient Egypt and a life-size T-Rex dinosaur skeleton.
