Mr Carroll spoke only to confirm his name, age and address
Newcastle United striker Andy Carroll has appeared in court charged with assault after an incident at a nightclub in the city.
The 21-year-old is accused of assault occasioning actual bodily harm against Michael Cook after an incident in the Blu Bambu club in December.
Mr Carroll of Carr Road, Prestwick, was released on conditional bail by Newcastle Magistrates' Court.
The case is to be committed to crown court and was adjourned until 29 April.
The England under-21 forward spoke only to confirm his name, age and address during a brief hearing on Thursday.
Following Newcastle's relegation from the Premier League, Carroll has been a regular this season as the club looks to return to the top flight at the first attempt.
He has scored eight goals in 20 matches for top-of-the-table Newcastle this season.
