Man bailed over 'neglect' death of Tyneside woman

A man arrested in connection with the death of a 58-year-old North Tyneside woman in a case of suspected neglect has been bailed.

Police said an ambulance crew was called to the home of Cynthia Barrass in Central Avenue, North Shields, by a member of her family on Tuesday night.

She was taken to hospital where staff found signs of neglect and and placed her intensive care, but she later died.

A 54-year-old man was arrested and later bailed pending further inquiries.

A post-mortem examination has been carried out but police have not yet disclosed the results.
