The council says the 20mph limit would make Tynemouth more safe

Residents of a North Tyneside village are being asked for their views on implementing a 20mph speed limit.

North Tyneside Council has said the move in Tynemouth and the surrounding area would create a safer environment and reduce traffic-related accidents.

Traffic surveys have shown that vehicle speeds and volume are at an acceptable level for the introduction of the lower speed limit.

The council has no plans to introduce traffic calming measures.

People have until 27 November to comment.

The plans of the proposals are on display at Tynemouth and North Shields libraries, and can be viewed online.
