The group has produced a map showing proposed turbine locations

Villagers fighting six separate plans for wind farms near their homes fear turbines could almost outnumber residents if all are approved. Four different firms want to site a total of 32 turbines close to the village of Wingates, Northumberland, which has a population of 33 people. The group Wingates Not Wind Farm said the plans would "encircle" the community and ruin beautiful views. The firms have said it is unlikely that every site will be granted consent. An application has been submitted by Novera Energy for six turbines, while the Renewable Energy Company is seeking nine turbines. BT and Coronation Power are in the pre-planning stage for a total of 17 turbines at three sites near the village. Harm economy John Thompson, vice chairman of the campaign group, said: "We considered one wind farm so close to the village to be inappropriate but when we became aware of the other proposals we were horrified. "Over the last year the further applications have come in, resulting in proposals to basically encircle the village in wind turbines." County councillor Steven Bridgett said placing turbines in the area could harm the rural economy. He said: "Many residents and businesses rely on tourism in this area to support them. "I would question what kind of impact this going to have on people visiting and staying in the area." A Northumberland County Council spokeswoman said: "The two live proposals are still under assessment by officers and no date has been set as yet for their determination. "As part of that assessment the council will be carefully considering the potential cumulative landscape and visual impact of the proposals."
