A man wanted for an alleged gun murder in Albania is facing extradition after being arrested on Tyneside.

Sokol Sinani, 37, who is on Interpol's most-wanted list, was arrested in a raid by Metropolitan Police officers in Ryton, Gateshead, earlier this month.

He was remanded in custody at Westminster Magistrates' Court on 14 October pending an extradition hearing.

It is understood the Albanian government issued a warrant for his arrest in 1996.

The Interpol website lists his alleged offences as crimes against life and health, involving the use of weapons.
