Two men who died when a car left a Tyneside road and plunged down a bank were brothers, police said.

Andrew Davies, 24, and Nicolas Davies, 20, died following the crash at New Hartley, near Whitley Bay, on 9 July.

In a statement, their family said the pair was being mourned by their parents, younger brother and Andrew's four-week old son and girlfriend.

A 21-year-old man arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving was released on bail.

The statement from the family said: "We are grieving the loss of Andrew and Nicolas who will be sadly missed by mum and dad and younger brother Thomas and Andrew's four-week-old son and his girlfriend."

A third man who was injured in the crash is in hospital in a critical but stable condition.
