Clean-up after tanker overturns

A Northumberland village was virtually cut off for a time after a chemical tanker overturned, spilling some of its load on to the road.

A major clean-up operation was mounted after the spillage in Cornhill on Tweed, near Berwick, late on Saturday.

The accident, involving a tanker containing mixed chemicals, forced the closure of the A697 and A698 routes into Scotland, said Northumbria Police.

The tanker driver suffered minor injuries. No-one else was hurt.
