Crime fall 'due to extra patrols'

Crime has fallen in North Tyneside, according to new research from Northumbria Police.

The figures from 1 April to 30 June showed that over all crime was down by 31% compared with the same period in the previous year.

House burglary had fallen by 11% and vehicle crime by 41%.

Northumbria Police said the reductions were the result of additional patrols by police and community support officers targeting crime hot spots.

Ch Supt Gary Calvert, said: "This is very good news for local residents and they should feel reassured by these results."
