Bridge work brings road closure

A stretch of the A19 is to be closed to traffic over two weekends to allow refurbishment of a Tyneside bridge.

The route will be shut between the Holystone and Killingworth interchanges from 1800 BST to 1200 BST on 11 and 12 July and 5 and 6 September.

A 50mph speed limit in both directions will be in place during weekdays to allow work on the B1317 Castle Park Bridge over the A19.

The first closure coincides with a temporary shutting of the Tyne Tunnel.

The bridge refurbishment is expected to be completed before the start of next year.
