Man denies Chinese double murder

A man has pleaded not guilty to the murders of a Chinese couple who were former Newcastle University students.

The mutilated bodies of Zhen Xing Yang and his girlfriend Xi Zhou, both 25, were discovered in their flat in Croydon Road, Newcastle, on 9 August.

Guang Hui Cao, 30, of Castle Close, Morpeth, appeared at Newcastle Crown Court on Thursday.

A trial date was set for 27 April. Two other men held in connection with the killings have been bailed.
