Man in court over murder at hotel

A man has appeared before magistrates charged with murder following the death of a 61-year-old-man at a guest house in Newcastle.

Tony Petersen was discovered after police were called to Westgate House Hotel in Grangerville South on Sunday.

Police said a post-mortem examination concluded Mr Petersen, who lived at the hotel, died from head injuries.

Spencer Barnes, 34, who also lived at the hotel, was remanded and will appear at Newcastle Crown Court on 21 January.

Police are still appealing for witnesses.
