Driver dies after car hits bridge

A 24-year-old woman has died after her car left the road in rural Northumberland.

It is believed the Renault Clio spun on ice before colliding with a stone bridge on the C256 between Harlow Hill and Horsley village.

Claire Hughes, from Prudhoe, was taken to Newcastle General Hospital but later died from her injuries.

Any witnesses to the incident late on Sunday night are asked to contact Northumbria Police.
