Part of Metro closed for repairs

A stretch of the Tyne and Wear Metro, close to the fleet depot, was suspended for a morning while essential engineering work was carried out.

On Sunday, no service operated between South Gosforth and Longbenton until 1230 GMT.

There was a replacement bus service, and trains continued to run from St James to Four Lane Ends and from Regent Centre to South Shields.

Operator Nexus had warned people to allow extra time for their journeys.
