Motorcyclist killed on motorway

A motorcyclist has died in a crash on a motorway in Tyneside.

Police were called to the A1 Western Bypass in Gateshead early on Thursday when the wreckage of a motorbike was seen by the roadside.

The body of 19-year-old Steven Dring from Gateshead was discovered following a search by a police helicopter using thermal imaging equipment.

The incident, which happened close to the Swalwell turnoff, is being investigated by police.
