Jewellery thefts 'may be linked'

Police are investigating a possible link between an armed raid in Newcastle and a robbery in London.

Expensive watches taken from the raid at Berry's on Grey Street last month were recovered during a routine search of a coach at Dover Port.

Officers are looking into a possible link with a further robbery at a Berry's Jewellers in Windsor which happened on Monday.

Two men were arrested and have been charged with robbery.

Detectives are also looking at CCTV footage to try to discover how the jewellery from the Newcastle robbery ended up in Dover.

Twelve Cartier and 16 Patek Philippe watches were found, leaving just three watches missing.

Detective Inspector Lee Buzzeo from Newcastle CID said: "We're pleased the watches have been recovered and we've been able to return them to Berry's."

Detectives had several leads in the inquiry.

"One of these will be a potential link between the recent robbery in Windsor and the one in Newcastle," he added.
