Poster appeal in flat murder hunt

Chinese murder moster
Posters in English and Mandarin are being put up throughout Newcastle

Detectives hunting the killers of a Chinese couple in Newcastle have launched a dual language poster appeal.

The posters, in English and Mandarin, highlight a £5,000 reward for information leading to the conviction of the couple's killers.

Zhen Xing Yang and his girlfriend Xi Zhou, both 25, were found on 9 August at their flat in the city's West End.

The couple died after a "frenzied" knife attack. Mr Yang had also been tortured before being stabbed to death.

Although police already know a good deal about the couple, officers involved in the investigation are still keen to find out about their final days.

Northumbria Police Det Supt Steve Wade, leading the investigation, said: "It is now almost three weeks since the bodies of Xi Zhou and Zhen Xing Yang were discovered.

"Since then officers have been working tirelessly to catch their killers.

"They have been examining forensic evidence, CCTV, mobile phone and banking records, computer and website data.

"We are building a picture of Xi Zhou and Zhen Xing Yang and possible motives behind their deaths.

"I hope that anybody who has information and has yet to come forward will see the new appeal and contact my officers."

Police are still looking for three people seen near the flat less than an hour after Ms Zhou was last seen alive.
