Two men have been charged in connection with an armed raid on a Tyneside bookmakers shop.

Police said staff at Coral betting shop on Beacon Lough Road, Gateshead, were threatened with a gun during the robbery on Wednesday night.

The offenders, who covered their faces with scarves, fled with cash. Nobody was injured in the raid.

Two men, aged 23 and 26, were remanded into custody after appearing at Gateshead Magistrates' Court on Monday.
