Metro resumes after vandal attack

The Metro service on Tyneside has returned to normal after thieves stole cable from a Metro rail line.

Trains were subject to delays on Thursday morning after 200m (656ft) of cabling was taken from the line between the Howdon and Hadrian Road stations.

The vandals also cut three communication cables and damaged a section of fibre optic cable.

Nexus, which operates the service, said the delays were "minor" and apologised to customers for any inconvenience.
