Teenager talked down from rooftop

Police negotiators were called to a Tyneside street where a teenager had climbed onto a roof and was threatening to harm himself.

The 15-year-old refused to leave the roof of the property on Rectory Road, Gateshead, when officers responded to an emergency call on Friday night.

But police negotiators subsequently managed to talk him down and he was taken into the care of his family.

No-one was injured during the incident, which lasted for about an hour.
