A man has been re-arrested after an 89-year-old died in hospital almost a month after being attacked at his Tyneside home.

Harold Lindley was found with serious facial injuries by neighbours in Walker Grove, Walker, Newcastle, on 17 April.

Michael Stephenson, 20, of Westbury Avenue in the city, was re-arrested on Thursday and later technically bailed.

However, he remains in custody charged with robbery and causing grievous bodily harm.

A Northumbria Police spokesman said the results of a post-mortem examination into Mr Lindley's death were inconclusive.

Further tests were being carried out with results expected to take up to six weeks.
