Pensioner dies after house attack

An elderly man has died in hospital almost a month after being attacked at his Tyneside home.

Harold Lindley, 89 was found with serious facial injuries by neighbours in Walker Grove, Walker, on 17 April.

Northumbria Police said a post-mortem examination into Mr Lindley's death would be carried out on Thursday.

Michael Stephenson, 20, of Westbury Avenue in the city, has been remanded in custody charged with robbery and causing grievous bodily harm.
