New flights from city's airport

Two new long-haul flight destinations will be displayed at Newcastle Airport for the first time this weekend.

Thomson Fly flights to Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic and Cancun in Mexico will take off for the first time on Sunday and Monday.

Existing long-haul destinations from the airport include Orlando, Toronto, Dubai and Sharm El-Sheikh.

Airport bosses say more than 150 seasonal staff have been recruited for the summer season.

Chris Sanders, head of airline relations and development, said "Since last summer, Newcastle International Airport has worked harder than ever to develop its long-haul route network.

"We're very pleased to announce even more scheduled flights to some beautiful destinations across the world."
