Rescuers in Tynemouth have taken delivery of a state-of-the-art lifeboat paid for by a generous donor.
The £29,000 RNLI vessel is named Mark Noble in memory of the Tyneside donor's brother.
The lifeboat will replace the station's existing D class vessel, Cromer Smuggler, which has been in service since 1998 attending 242 rescues.
The new boat will operate alongside the station's all-weather boat the Spirit of Northumberland.
Saving lives
Tynemouth RNLI lifeboat operations manager David Stenhouse said: "Everyone at the station is delighted and privileged to receive this new lifeboat, which will enable us to carry out rescues faster and more effectively than ever before.
"We are all extremely grateful to our generous donor.
"The RNLI relies entirely on donations and legacies for our income and without people like them we would be unable to carry on saving lives at sea."
The Mark Noble can reach a speed of 25 knots.
