Gunshots 'fired on estate street'

Residents reported gunshots being fired on a Tyneside street, police said.

Officers were called to Coquet Avenue, South Shields, in the early hours of Thursday, following the reports from worried homeowners.

A police spokesman said a house window in the street was later found to have been damaged by a firearm. No-one was injured in the incident.

Officers are now carrying out further inquiries and anyone with information is asked to contact police.
