Music stars Kate Nash and The Streets will be headlining the North East's biggest music festival in the summer.

The line-up for Evolution on the banks of the Tyne is expected to draw more than 60,000 music fans on 26 May.

But for the first time, the usually free concert will cost £3. Organisers say £1 will got to charity and the rest will be used to maintain the event.

Music lovers will also be able to see gigs across Tyneside as part of the festival between 23-26 May.

Jim Mawdsley, festival director, said: "It's in its seventh year now and is going from strength to strength.

"Word filters through and it is a lot easier for us to book the bands we want.

"We decided to charge because we want to make the event bigger and better and make it sustainable in the future."
