Bookmaker robber

A knifeman has stolen 300 from a bookmakers on Tyneside in the latest in a series of similar attacks.

Police said the raider threatened staff with an eight-inch knife at Chisholm Bookmakers in Station Road, Gosforth.

The robber struck on Saturday and was described as 5ft 7ins and wore a blue jacket with a scarf around his face.

Northumbria Police stepped up patrols around bookmakers in Gateshead earlier this month following four armed robberies in three weeks.

Two of those raids involved the use of bladed weapons being brandished at staff, with the other two involving hammers. No-one was seriously hurt.

Police said they were keeping an open mind as to whether these robberies are linked.
