Pair rescued from tidal causeway
Two people had to be airlifted to the Northumberland mainland, after becoming trapped by rising tides on the Holy Island causeway.

They were forced to abandon their car and take refuge in a purpose-built shelter, before being winched to safety by an RAF helicopter crew on Saturday.

A spokesman for Northumbria Police said the pair, who have not been identified, were shaken, but otherwise unhurt.

Warning signs showing safe crossing times are at the causeway entrance.
