A man who walked into a police station is being questioned on suspicion of murder after a body was discovered at a Tyneside flat.
The man's body was found in a first-floor flat
The 41-year-old was arrested by officers at Newcastle's Etal Lane police station on Sunday morning.
Shortly afterwards the body of the unnamed man was found at Millfield Close in Newburn.
The cause of death is unknown but results of a post-mortem examination are expected to be revealed on Monday.
Northumbria Police said the death appeared to have been an "isolated incident" and appealed for anyone in the area between Saturday night and 1100 BST on Sunday to come forward.
Insp Jan Harrison said: "We recognise that incidents like this heighten concerns for members of the public.
"However, it would appear this is an isolated incident between people who knew each other and not a random attack on a stranger.
"Over the next few days extra police officers and community support officers will be on patrol in the area providing reassurance to the local community and addressing any concerns they have.
"On behalf of the investigating team I would ask anyone who knows anything to please contact police."
