Suspended airport chief resigns
The chief executive of one of north-east England's busiest airports has resigned.

John Parkin had been temporarily relieved of his duties by the company which runs Newcastle Airport.

The resignation follows a continuing investigation being carried out into "certain personal contractual issues".

A spokeswoman for the airport said she was unable to make further comment because of "the legal nature of the ongoing investigation".

She said: "Mr Parkin's resignation does not affect or impact on the ongoing inquiry."

The commercial director, David Laws, will continue to carry out the former chief executive's duties.
