Passenger fury as flight delayed
Newcastle Airport
Police had to be called to calm some angry passengers
Hundreds of people spent more then eight hours sitting on a plane at Newcastle Airport only to be told their flight had been cancelled.

At one stage police had to be called to calm the situation on board the Flyjet plane which was bound for the Egyptian resort of Sharm el-Sheikh.

Airport staff blamed a technical fault and unidentified luggage for the delays before a passenger also went missing.

It is not yet known when the re-scheduled flight will depart.

Speaking on BBC Radio Five Live, one caller to the programme, Kevin Wiseman, said his son and his fiancee had been stranded on board and they had been treated very poorly.

"I have flown with Flyjet myself, out to Egypt, and I've found them very good.

"But I think the information they've given my son and his fiancee has been absolutely abysmal tonight."
