Digger used to rescue trapped dog
Firefighters borrowed a JCB to rescue a dog trapped 50ft (15m) down a drainpipe on South Tyneside.

The fox terrier's owner had tried to dig the animal out himself, before calling the fire service to the scene at Hebburn Marina on Saturday morning.

A fibre-optic scope was used to locate the dog, but attempts to free it using a small digger were unsuccessful.

After borrowing the JCB from a local firm, firefighters reached the dog and reunited it unharmed with its owner.
