Ashtray artwork marks smoking ban
Ashtray
The artwork will be made from 2,0007 ashtrays
A unique artwork is being created in Cumbria to mark the national ban on smoking in enclosed public spaces, which comes into force on 1 July.

Penrith-based artist David Boyd wants to use 2,007 ashtrays to highlighting the ban and promote recycling.

The project is being supported by Eden District Council, which has put out an appeal for donations of pub and restaurant ashtrays.

Once completed, the artwork will tour schools in the area.

Paul Saager, Eden District Council's smokefree co-ordinator, said: "Such a powerful public artwork will not only help communicate a positive message about the new law, but involve many Eden people and businesses in its creation.

"I am particularly keen to involve the area's young people in the development of this project."
