Youth held over throat stabbing

A teenager has appeared in court in connection with stabbing of a 79-year-old woman on her doorstep.

Auguste Jury was stabbed in the throat when she answered the door of her flat in Anfield Court in Kenton, Newcastle, on Wednesday.

The 15-year-old boy is charged with aggravated burglary and wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

He was remanded to secure accommodation and will appear at Gosforth Youth Court on 21 November.

Ms Jury is being treated at Newcastle's Freeman hospital where her condition is said to be improving.
