£350,000 boost for swimming pool

Plans for a new swimming pool in a Northumberland town have been given a £350,000 financial boost.

The grant has been donated by Sport England for the development in Hexham which will boast a six-lane, 25 metre pool and a gym.

The £9.5m complex is planned as an extension to the town's Wentworth Leisure Centre, which will undergo repairs and a changing rooms upgrade.

Tynedale Council and the local amateur swimming club are backing the project.
