Man charged over shooting deaths

A former soldier is due in court charged with murdering four members of his family who were found shot dead at a house in Newcastle.

Peter Purcell and his wife, Josie, both 70, and two of their sons, Keith 44, and Glen, 41, were discovered at their home in Benwell Grove on Sunday.

David Bradley, 41, also of Benwell Grove, was charged on Monday evening with four counts of murder.

Mr Bradley will appear in custody before magistrates in Newcastle.

He was arrested at 0615 BST on Sunday after walking into the police station on Westgate Road.

Northumbria Police said the four family members had died in the period between 2100 on Saturday and 0215 BST on Sunday.

Mr and Mrs Purcell, who were both retired, had lived at the terraced house for 22 years.
