Flood-hit town's progress updated
Repairs to the water main in Hexham
Work has been done to prevent Hexham being flooded again
Residents of a Northumberland town are to have their say 16 months after they were hit by severe floods.

Up to 10,000 homes were cut off for days after two water mains supplying Hexham were swept away in January 2005.

On Tuesday the Consumer Council for Water Northumbria watchdog will update locals on what has been done to prevent a similar disaster.

Northumbrian Water will also update locals on how pipes have been upgraded during the meeting at the Queen's Hall.

Last year 15 metres-deep shafts were sunk on both sides of the river Tyne near Tyne Green to ensure pipes are never again washed away.

A spokeswoman for the water watchdog said: "We are encouraging people to attend the meeting so consumers can have their say on these topics and raise any issues about the services they receive from their water company."
