Man on hairdresser murder charge

A man has been charged with the murder of a hairdresser who was found dying outside the salon where she worked.

Sharon Bell, of Elswick, Newcastle, was found in the doorway outside the New York hair salon in the city centre on 23 May.

The 38-year-old mother of three had been repeatedly stabbed.

Northumbria Police said a 44-year-old man was charged with murder on Wednesday night. He will appear before Newcastle Magistrates on Thursday.
