Thousands flock to music festival
Hard-Fi on stage
Hard-Fi were one of the bands on the line-up
Organisers of a music festival held on the banks of the Tyne estimate nearly 50,000 people attended.

Stages were set up on the Newcastle and Gateshead sides of the river for the free event on Monday that included acts like Hard-Fi and The Proclaimers.

It was the culmination of the Orange Evolution Festival, which featured 30 gigs in venues across Tyneside.

Police said the event went well and there were just five arrests mainly for drunk and disorderly behaviour.

Festival director Jim Mawdsley said: "It was fantastic. We had nearly 50,000 people down throughout the day."

One stage was set up in Baltic Square. On the Newcastle side of the river, crowds enjoyed acts on two stages at Spiller's Wharf.

More than 20 bands featured on a packed line-up, which also included Graham Coxon, Hard-Fi and The Go! Team.
