Crews monitor fire-hit building
Quayside fire
Fire crews are expected to be at the scene for some time
Fire crews are still at the scene of a huge building fire which caused disruption across Newcastle.

More than 50 firefighters were involved in tackling the fire at the Bonded Warehouse on the Quayside on Friday.

Crews were still monitoring the state of the building on Saturday. The Close was closed to traffic from the High Level Bridge to Skinnerburn Road.

Guests at the Copthorne Hotel opposite had to be evacuated and relocated.

A Mother's Day lunch for almost 190 guests at the hotel on Sunday has been cancelled and alternative venues found.

The fire left a cloud of smoke hanging over the city and at its height Metro stops at Monument and Central Station were closed, with trains passing through but not stopping.
