Building apprentices are being given the chance to hone their skills on a new project.
It is hoped the South Tyneside trainees will cut their teeth helping to build bungalows in Wood Terrace, Jarrow, for people with learning disabilities.
The six semi-detached homes will be built by Enterprise 5 on behalf of South Tyneside Primary Care Trust.
A report into the proposal will be discussed by Hebburn Community Area Forum on Thursday evening.
'Workforce equipped'
Forum Chairman Councillor Nancy Maxwell said: "I welcome this opportunity for our young people to learn skills to enhance both their careers and the borough's prosperity.
"Apprenticeships are vitally important to ensure that South Tyneside has a workforce equipped to meet the challenges of the future.
"Additionally, providing our young people with the tools of a trade is a way of enabling them to stay in the area, near to family and friends, without having to travel to find work."
Hebburn Community Area Forum will be held at Hebburn Civic Centre, Campbell Park Road, Hebburn, at 1600 BST on Thursday.
