Concerns raised for 250 yard jobs
Union leaders fear for the future of 250 jobs after administrators were called into a Tyneside yard.

Administrators were called into McNulty Offshore, in South Shields, on Monday, and it is understood they are working to keep it open as a going concern.

The GMB union said the news was a blow to its members working on the river and it hoped the administrators would be able to keep the yard open.

A McNulty's spokeswoman confirmed administrators had been called in.

The GMB said although the yard has plenty of work and future orders, there was obviously a problem with cash flow leading to the administrators being brought in.

GMB senior organiser Billy Coates said: "This is the worst possible news for our members working on the river, on the back of 80 redundancies at Swan Hunters and the bleak prospects on the north of the river.

"We hope the administrators can do everything to keep McNulty's open."
