Newcastle United footballer Lee Bowyer is facing a driving ban after admitting speeding in his Porsche 911 on a stretch of the A1 in Northumberland.
The 28-year-old was clocked by a mobile police patrol and followed for eight miles in July this year reaching speeds of 112mph, magistrates heard on Friday.
Bowyer admitted the offence by letter and did not attend the hearing at Bedlington Magistrates' Court.
Magistrates adjourned the case until 7 October and ordered Bowyer to attend.
The court heard that Bowyer overtook a patrol car near his home in Felton, Northumberland, and was then followed to Stannington, near Morpeth.
Earlier this week he lost the first stage of his legal challenge against a decision to prosecute him for an on-pitch fight with team-mate Kieron Dyer.
