Man attacked travelling on Metro
A man was headbutted and kicked in the head as he travelled on a Metro train, police say.

The 53-year-old man, of South Tyneside, was travelling from Central Station, in Newcastle, when he was attacked near Pelaw after 11pm on Monday.

Police said he was approached by three men and he was headbutted, bitten on the hand and kicked in the head.

Police said it was a motiveless attack and are appealing for a couple who were in the carriage to come forward.

Northumbria Police said the man was on his way back home after a night out.

They said a man and woman witnessed the attack and helped the man afterwards. They left the train at Pelaw along with the attackers.

The injured man carried on to South Tyneside and was taken to hospital and later released.

Police are appealing for the couple and any other witnesses to come forward.
